A storm prep list includes all sorts of things: an emergency supplies list, a survival supplies list, and a storm preparedness list. All of these will help you get through the storm in one piece.

Our ultimate storm prep list includes everything you would ever need to weather any kind of storm.

  1. General Items
  • Extra batteries
  • Flashlights
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Tarps or heavy-gauge plastic sheets (These will protect the inside of your home)
  • Disposable diapers and wipes for infants.
  • Garbage bags – plenty of them.
  • Candles.
  • A battery-powered radio for storm updates.
  • Some duct tape
  • Wooden matches or spare lighters.
  • Paper towels, tissue, and paper plates.
  • Address book with all the key phone numbers.
  • A full tank of gas for all the vehicles.
  • Enough cash that can last at least one week.

Ensure to put all of your valuable papers, such as birth certificates and insurance policies, in a secure area that’s waterproof. If the worst happens, you will need these documents to rebuild your house and home again.

  1. Emergency Supplies

If someone is hurt during the storm, you will need to have an emergency supplies list of items for first aid purposes. This should include:

  • Scissors
  • Sterile adhesive gauze, bandages, rolls, pads, and a first-aid book.
  • Aspirin and antacid tablets.
  • Hydrogen peroxide.
  • Tweezers
  • A snake-bite kit – this would be ideal for areas where snakes are common.
  • Latex gloves
  • Thermometer

  1. Food Items
  • Soda and powdered drink mixes
  • Instant tea, coffee, and powdered cream
  • Canned foods such as fruits, meat, fish, soups, snacks, and puddings.
  • Rice and noodles.

At the start of the hurricane season, every storm preparedness list should be stockpiled with around three days’ worth of water and food. The food should be nonperishable items.

Calculate for each person that they will need around 1 gallon of water daily, and also opt for foods that will not require any cooking or refrigeration. This includes; peanut butter, granola bars, power bars, canned foods, and crackers.

These will provide you with variety and ensure that you are well-fed and healthy. They also do not run the risk of spoiling any time soon.

  1. Clean Laundry

Because you do not know what the post-hurricane conditions will be, you should ensure that everyone has some clothes to change. Sometimes you could be trapped for days, and you will need to change your clothes.
